Regulations of cars import to UAE

Importing a car in the UAE is not just possible, it is quite a smooth process if you follow the proper guidelines. There are certain requirements and regulations that more or less remain the same for all emirates. It is easier to import newer cars but not entirely impossible to get older cars. There is a lot to learn about the process and this guide covers all the important aspects. Let’s start with the criteria.

01 Age Restriction.

​The manufacturing date of a car should not be more than four years old.​

 

 

02 Left Hand-Drive vehicle.

Importation of only left-hand drive vehicles is allowed in the UAE. Even though one can also import a right-hand drive vehicle, but the vehicle won’t get register, hence one cannot use it on the roads of the UAE.

 

 

03 Used Cars Import Duties And Taxes In UAE.

Vehicles imported in UAE subjected to duties and taxes. Importation of vehicles by diplomats can be duty-free with exemption from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of UAE. Importing company have to pay: 
•    An import duty of 5% value of the vehicle
•    A value-added tax (VAT) of 5% 
If you’re missing original documentation, customs will charge an additional $300 fee.  
The vehicle will be inspected at Customs to verify that your export declaration is accurate. If there is an inconsistency, you may have to pay the difference.

 

 

04 Used Cars Import Documentation in UAE.

Original Bill of lading:
- It should include make, model, chassis number, engine number, color and type of car.
- Export certificates issued by the Traffic Department (Title of ownership) 
- Purchase/Commercial/Proforma Invoice
- Report on Car Condition from load port
- Certificate of Origin
- Insurance Certificate
